My Philosophy

Most of us know what we don’t want, but very few of us have a clear understanding of what we do actually want.

We know that we don’t want to feel overwhelmed, anxious, depressed, unfulfilled or unmotivated. We may want to stop a behavior such as substance abuse, anger outbursts or some other unhealthy activity.  We want to avoid these uncomfortable feelings, or unhealthy behaviors, but very few of us have a clear picture of what we do want to have in place of the problem. I help people develop their own unique understanding of what they do want.  We will work together to develop a picture of what your situation will look like when things are better.  We then begin taking manageable steps towards reaching your desired outcome.

I help clients identify their own strengths. Then, working together, we draw from these strengths as we develop a plan to move towards your desired change.

My style is very approachable, relatable and applicable.  I help clients identify their own strengths. Then, working together, we draw from these strengths as we develop a plan to move towards your desired change. We want to have an understanding of the problem, but our time together will be spent working towards a solution as opposed to spending our time and energy focusing solely on the problem. In therapy lingo this is termed as having a Strengths-Based and Solution-Focused approach to counseling.

Since entering the mental health field in 2003 I have effectively worked with Entrepreneurs, Executives of Fortune 500 companies, law enforcement/first responders, health care providers (including other therapists), court mandated youth, homeless populations and individuals from around the world. I work with clients to examine health and wellbeing across 4 domains: Emotional (thoughts/feelings), Physical (including nutrition and sleep), Interpersonal (our relationships with others) and Spiritual (a connectedness with something greater than ourselves). These domains are not separate; they are interconnected with one another.  A change in one domain will create a change in all other domains.  Since the goal of therapy is to improve overall wellbeing, we will spend some time examining each of these domains during our work together.

By reaching out, you are taking the first step towards making meaningful change.

It’s important to feel comfortable with your therapist. As such, I offer a complimentary initial 15-minute consultation. I know that it takes courage to take that initial step and reach out.  Please do realize, however, that by reaching out you are indeed taking the first step towards making meaningful change.  I look forward to hearing from you!
